About

"fan it" icon

Announced on May 13, 2010, and begun on May 17, 2010, "fan it" is principally an online viral marketing and rewards program for NBC's television series and films. "Fan it" participants can earn reward points by completing show-related challenges, which are time-restricted and include watching videos, posting to message boards, adding comments, completing show-related games, and sharing content with friends on one or more of their social networking accounts.

To participate, users must first sign up using a social networking account: either their existing Facebook, FourSquare, Twitter, MySpace, or MyNBC accounts (Note: Most challenges require linking "fan it" to a site other than MyNBC).

Users can redeem reward points for various prizes, including access to yet-to-premiere series, NBC merchandise, and entries to sweepstakes.

NBC partnered with social media tracking company ThingFo, Inc. to build the "fan it" program.

Season One -- 2010

Concurrent with the announcement of The Event as an upcoming show on May 7, 2010, NBC launched The Event-related Twitter and Facebook accounts, which provide announcements including notices about "fan it!" challenges and rewards related to the show.

The Event-related challenges for Season One have included watching preview clips and entering a sweepstakes to have your city be one of five given an advanced pilot screening.

The Event-related rewards for Season One have included sweepstakes entries for winning a VIP Comic-Con 2010 seat and a walk-on role.
