Character History
2005
Leila and Sean first meet at the MIT swimming pool. Leila is having trouble swimming, and Sean, who is on the swim team, helps her improve her technique. Sean offers another swimming lesson later, and Leila agrees. (To Keep Us Safe)
In November, Sean and Leila visit the Buchanans' home for Thanksgiving dinner. Leila introduces Sean to her family and Sean tells the Buchanans of his family. Sean bonds with Michael and Valerie, who both approve of him. (A Matter of Life and Death)
2010
Eleven days before he boards Flight 514, Sean is at the Buchanans' home, asking Michael, his girlfriend's father, for his blessing. Michael swiftly agrees to let Sean propose to Leila on their upcoming cruise trip, as long as he protects and cherishes her. Sean then says goodbye to the Buchanan family and departs with Leila in his car.
During the cruise, Sean and Leila take a day-trip in Saint Lucia, where they explore the island's diverse landscapes. However, right when he is about to propose, Sean hears a man screaming "Help!" and they rush over. They find that the man's girlfriend, Vicky, is drowning. Sean dives in and rescues Vicky. The four of them spend the rest of the day together, and Vicky invites Sean and Leila along for scuba-diving the next day. (I Haven't Told You Everything)
The next day, Sean decides to stay with Leila, since she's not feeling well after having too much to drink, but Vicky arrives to change his mind. Leila tells her that Sean will go. (To Keep Us Safe) Sean and Vicky go scuba-diving near Antigua. Vicky attaches herself to Sean excessively on the trip. When he gets back to the cruise boat, however, Sean discovers that his key is not working. Furthermore, the ship's desk clerk has no record of him ever being on the cruise. After persuading a guard to let him into his room, he finds that it is now inhabited by two strangers. The guard ushers him out and towards the security office, but Sean breaks into a sprint and escapes.
In the present, Sean hastily boards Avias Flight 514, and watches as men in suits try to stop the plane from taking off. Once the plane is in the air, he pulls a gun on the stewardess, telling everyone to back off. He asks the captain of the plane to turn around, but an air marshal intervenes. Eventually, as Michael Buchanan steers the plane towards the President's Retreat, the plane and everyone on it, including Sean, are enveloped by a large blast of light. (I Haven't Told You Everything)
The plane reappears in the Arizona desert and lands safely. Sean helps the passengers evacuate the plane as a fire breaks out in the back of the plane. Outside, Sean confronts Michael, who apologizes for his actions, saying that a mysterious group (including Vicky) threatened to kill Leila if he didn't do as they asked. As the survivors see a group of helicopters approaching, he frantically insists that they do not mean to help the passengers and demands that Sean leave and find help. Sean flees, but after walking for so long in the desert, he falls, dehydrated.
Sean later reawakens on a hospital bed in St. Francis Hospital just outside Yuma, Arizona. Sean urges a nurse to call the police. The nurse, Leanne, phones the Yuma PD, and is informed by the Deputy that Sean is wanted for apparently murdering someone aboard the cruise ship. Later, Leanne tends to Sean just as a large police force arrives to arrest him. Sean attempts to flee the hospital, but he is cornered and arrested by two agents.
While the two agents drive Sean back to the field office, they hit a roadblock, and are informed that traffic is being redirected due to a chemical spill down the road. In spite of Sean's insistences that they are simply covering up the plane crash site, Hobbes turns the car around. (To Keep Us Safe) An RV crashes into the agent's car, killing Hobbes, the highway officer and the driver. Sean manages to escape from the crash and save an injured Agent Collier. Sean drives off in a patrol car, with the agent inside.
Sean arrives at Pearblossom Motel and restrains Agent Collier while explaining he plans on using facial recognition software to locate Vicky, as he already has her password but she cuts his hopes short by telling him that he needs to access to the FBI's intranet, which is only in a field office. When Sean goes to wash up, Collier manages to get her phone from her handbag, and phones the police, calling for help. When an FBI response team arrive, Sean sneaks into the trunk of one of their cars.
When the car is parked at the Yuma FBI office, Sean gets out of the trunk and runs into the basement. He hooks up the netbook he has onto the FBI's intranet and starts up the facial recognition software. As it brings several ID matches of Vicky, a team barges in and arrests Sean. Back at the office, two U.S. marshals arrive who claim they have a transport order for Sean. One of the marshals pulls out a gun and a shootout ensues. Agent Collier tosses Sean keys to free himself. They both manage to overpower the men. When Sean collects the gunman's keys, Sean and Agent Collier escape into the gunman's SUV and drive off. (Protect Them from the Truth)
Sean and Agent Collier agree to investigate a house which Vicky has been using a credit card to pay rent. When they arrive, a woman answers the door. Inside, she claims she knows nothing about Vicky but Sean, who is not convinced, peers around the house and finds a little boy, Adam. Sean confronts the woman -- saying that she is protecting her grandson and she is Vicky's mother. The woman gives Sean and Agent Collier a number to reach Vicky. (A Matter of Life and Death)
Sean and Collier travel to the Snyder police station after he receives Leila's voice mail. With help from a friend, he realizes Vicky is there and that the police station is compromised. He sends a photo of Adam to Vicky's cell phone and threatens to release Adam's location and image unless Lelia is freed. Sean is finally able to free Leila with the help of Agent Collier and Vicky, who takes out her comrades in the building. (Casualties of War)
