Sophia Maguire is the leader of the captives at the Mount Inostranka Detention Facility.

Character History

1944

Sophia discovers they have been spotted, after a plane flies over.

In the Brooks Mountain Range, in Alaska, Sophia and her people are recovering at a crash site. She discovers that they have been spotted and orders Thomas to collect all the able-bodied people to get ready to go. Thomas refuses to leave Sophia with the others. Sophia tells him that she can't risk all of them getting caught and hugs him goodbye. (To Keep Us Safe)

2009

In a conference room, Sophia talks with Simon. He reveals he had captured a man named William who wants to buy his freedom back with information on "the event". Sophia orders Simon to convince him not to. She disagrees with Simon's suggestion to warn the government about "the event", saying that she needs him to sort out the troubles and protection of their own people, not anyone else. As Simon leaves, he tells a military guard to take Sophia, who is handcuffed to her chair, back to her quarters. Later on, Sophia greets The President, who visits to inspect the facility she is held in. (I Haven't Told You Everything)

2010

At the President's Retreat, President Martinez kindly asks Sophia if she is "ready" to speak to the public, to which she replies that she has been ready for a long time. Suddenly, Sophia and the President are rushed to safety after they witness a plane heading right towards them. Sophia watches as the plane disappears into a blue light. In amazement, she states "they saved us" and informs the President she hasn't told him everything. (I Haven't Told You Everything)

Hours later, Sophia is re-captured and restrained into her cell. She speaks with President Martinez, who questions the motives of her people. When pressed with more questions, Sophia does not reply and, as a result, the President refuses to free her people until he gets the truth. Sophia claims that that would be a mistake, because her people have been locked up 66 years and their patience is running out. The President interprets this as a threat and leaves the room. Notes

• Some early press releases called Laura Innes's character "Sophia Gavras". Also, reports about the original casting call note the role was originally written to be a male character, "Neil McCann".
