Main page layout
So being a new wiki, I'm sure the main page layout will fluctuate. We have a good degree of freedom in laying it out however we'd like and setting whatever color scheme seems appropriate. Like on Heroes Wiki I'd like to keep a few featured sites listed on the main page. The list of featured sites is usually something I negotiate with the site owners as being listed there will drive a good deal of traffic to their site once things get going. All fan sites can be added to a fan sites section on the Links page once it's setup. (e.g. Heroes Wiki Links page) It's also important that we leave the Advertisement block right where it is, though, as the placement of that is part of our arrangement with NBC. I haven't added the ad code itself yet, but I expect it to be added shortly. For an example of what the advertising will look like, feel free to check out Heroes Wiki. Everything else is pretty much unencumbered and we can organize it however we like. If in doubt, just copy the Main Page into your user space and make a proposed main page there that people can comment on. That approach has worked well in the past. (Admin 03:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC))
- Do we have an arrangement with NBC, or is that something that is still in the works? One thought on colors: I'd like to set up the colors with a template that can be easily changed. Something like template:primary color and template:secondary color. That way if we want to change the color scheme down the road, it will be easy to do so with a simple change to one of the color templates. RyanGibsonStewart 03:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- The contract itself is still being drafted, but that shouldn't affect much. It mostly deals with things like the advertisements. I have been in communication with them a lot and the wiki will benefit from their support much like Heroes Wiki did. They'll be linking to the wiki from their official sites, too. (Admin 14:58, 23 July 2010 (UTC))
- Excellent. Excellent. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:29, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- That's terrific news. I hope it works out.--Volts 05:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone else think that the "Did you know..." section should be much lower on the main page? Maybe bring the "Articles section up higher? --Mr. Yuck 02:37, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea to bring the articles section up higher. Any other thoughts? I'll add a Main_Page copy in my userspace to see what it might look like.--Volts (talk) 05:34, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, you can view the proposed new layout here. Thoughts?--Volts (talk) 09:38, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Is it possible to bring the Articles Section up right underneath the "Latest Episode" section? Some resizing may be necessary. Other than that, it looks good. --Mr. Yuck 16:24, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Sure... check now.--Volts (talk) 20:43, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Volts, that looks great! I say go ahead and make the switch. Another topic I'm still wondering about is the Principal Cast section....
I don't know if I like how big it is or if its really even necessary on the homepage. We've got a "Characters" portal within the "Articles" section and I think it may be just a bit repetitive to keep the aforementioned section in.
Thoughts? --Mr. Yuck 23:49, 3 October 2010 (UTC)- Just read the topic below about a gap that you filled. I was kind of wondering why the Principal Cast section was included in the first place.... That being said, I'm still questioning its necessity. --Mr. Yuck 23:52, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Gap
Ok, so I added some DYK content, but it leaves a large gap in the middle. I think we can fill that with The Event's Comic-Con 2010 info. and the cast and crew portals or image maps. By image maps, I mean the big group images with links inside them (like this one).--Volts 19:30, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- I think the image maps would be a great idea. Also, information from Comic-Con 2010 has to be shown on the main page for a while. :) --Leckie -- Talk 20:42, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've created the principal cast image map. You can see it at Template:Principalmap. There is no crew group photo so I guess we'll use the portal content instead for the crew.--Volts 05:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Looks great. Nice job. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:53, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I just added the Principal Cast above featured sites and left DYK to where Ryan moved it. I think it works good that way. I'll work on the crew portal a little later.--Volts 07:57, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Article portals
I noticed that some old portals of HW were missing (and I still believe that we don't have to follow everything HW did), but I think that for a show like this, a Portal:Groups, Portal:Items, and Portal:Locations would still be useful. — Radi 14:39, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- If you'd like them then by all means add them. :) Everything's still fresh and there will be lots to add. When I added the basic list of portals I just picked things I thought would be important early on, but if you'd like to add others feel free! (Admin 14:50, 23 July 2010 (UTC))
- I've added them, and I've commented out Fan Creations for now. — Radi 05:07, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
DYK
I'm not sure how much info. we want to post prior to the pilot episode, but I've listed some trivia I looked up at Template talk:DYK. I figure other people can go through and add/trim and then we can choose.--Volts 07:40, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- Per Admin's suggestion, I went ahead and trimed/added some of the content I suggested.--Volts 19:33, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- Looks good (though it'd be nice to have it on the left side rather than the right side to balance out the page for now). I think after the show airs, we can start modifying things a bit... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:31, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I fixed the balance. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:32, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Fan it
I've added the info. to Template:News for now, but I think we may want to consider a separate "fan it" section, to note the latest challenges and rewards.--Volts (talk) 10:54, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Icon for browsers
I think we should have a small icon for the website, which would show up next to the address bar when people come to the site. Heroes Wiki's is the helix on a black background; I'm thinking for The Event Wiki, a backwards E would be alright. Any other thoughts? --Radi 14:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea... I like seeing those things in the address bar. A backwards E seems perfect for this wiki. --Leckie -- Talk 14:51, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think the icon you are referring to is called a 'favicon'. I've seen the backwards E used elsewhere, but it sounds good to me as a favicon as long as we come up with our own style. Perhaps a logo contest is in the works? :)--Volts (talk) 03:13, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- correct, it's a favicon. And a logo contest for the favicon sounds good to me. (Admin 23:30, 9 August 2010 (UTC))
- Cool, I've uploaded one (
) designed to look like our icons. I guess we can start up a page for the contest at The Event Wiki:Logo contest. The standard format for favicons is 16x16 pixels.--Volts (talk) 21:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
