The Event is an internationally-broadcast television series by creator/writer Nick Wauters.
About
The series premiered in the United States on September 20, 2010; and is produced by Universal Media Studios and Steve Stark Productions. Executive producers for the show include showrunner Evan Katz, creator/writer Nick Wauters, Steve Stark, Director Jeffrey Reiner, and writer Jim Wong.
At Comic-Con, Nick Wauters described his intentions for the drama series to be "something that had a little bit of everything for everyone." He explained that "[the show] is really a thriller, it's a love story, it's a mystery, and it does have an element of science fiction, but the entire story does not rest on it."

Promotions
The Event was announced to be picked up for series production on May 7, 2010, and announced to air on Mondays at 9/8c beginning Fall 2010 at the NBC Upfront presentation on May 17, 2010. Prior to the pilot episode's airing on September 20, 2010, the pilot and the principal cast and crew were introduced to fans attending the 2010 Comic-Con on July 24, and to the press at the 2010 TCA Press Tour on July 30. Cast members Blair Underwood, Laura Innes, Jason Ritter, and Ian Anthony Dale introduced the trailer for the show in the 30-minute 2010 NBC Primetime Preview Show, which began airing August 9, 2010 online and on NBC Universal networks.
The show's NBC.com website was officially launched on August 13, 2010, along with show site theeventiscoming.com. Concurrent with the announcement of The Event as an upcoming show on May 7, 2010, NBC launched The Event-related Twitter and Facebook accounts, which provide announcements including notices about "fan it" challenges and rewards related to the show. Official character Twitter accounts began tweeting on September 4, 2010.
